Start by mapping the work. If each input has a known transformation and a fixed destination, conventional software or automation may be enough. Predictable calculation logic benefits from being explicit.
A model can help where the input varies and a person currently interprets documents, extracts context or chooses among possible next steps. An agent combines that model with tools and a bounded process for acting on a task.
Giving the model tools does not settle who is allowed to change a record. Define permissions in the application. A document-review agent can prepare a recommendation while the application requires a person to approve the change.
Test ordinary cases and exceptions. What happens when a source cannot be read, when two records disagree or when a tool fails? Decide where the process stops and who receives the unresolved work.
Describe the system by its job and its limits. That makes it easier for the team to understand, operate and improve.
